Sweet Smelling Onions

Onions make your food smell delicious, but they make your hands smell yucky. The best way to get rid your fingers of their scent is first to dab them in a bowl of vinegar. Vinegar far overpowers the smell of onions, and it is much easier to wash out when you are done. The vinegar from your fingers even adds an interesting sharpness to the taste of the onions.

Power Precautions

If the electricity goes out in your home due to a blackout, then you should make sure to remove all of your appliances from the wall sockets and switch off all the lights. This will prevent them from shorting out when power returns, as there is usually a strong surge of electricity for the first few seconds.

During the power out, refrain from opening your fridge and freezer to conserve the coolness and prevent additional warm air from coming in.

Sink that Stink

For kitchen sink with garbage disposal, there is nothing quite as stinky as the smell of a dirty garbage disposal, but it is quite simple to make the problem to go away. Toss in a few rinds from citrus fruits and turn the disposal on. An even more powerful method is to make a batch of ice cubes with a healthy dose of vinegar in them; pour the cubes down the drain and turn it on. The smell will disappear almost immmediately! Before doing this, however, you should test the disposal with one or two cubes, to make sure that it is strong enough.

First, never wash oil or fat down the darin; wait for it to solodify and throw it out instead. secong, brush any pieces of food --even small crumbs!-- in to the garbage rather than letting them go down the darain. One of the best way to get rid of a clog that is already in your drain is to pour a mivture of salit and boiling water into it. Remember, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Brrr...Defrost your Fridge

Does your freezer or fridge freezer look like Alaska? If so, well! You need to defrost it. More or less, freezer needs to be defrost every 2 to 3 months or when the ice accumulated is more than an inch thick.

Before you begin defrosting, think and plan ahead because defrosting a freezer can be frustratingly messy. Here are materials and steps to follow in order to save time and energy. You also have a chance to clean the inside and the outside of the fridge. As well as, organize it, which will be discuss on the next article, which is something to look forward.

You need to prepare a large pot that fit inside the freezer, a few towels and rags, a basin and you may also use a hair dryer. After preparing the materials you may begin to defrost the freezer.
First, prepare the fridge by removing all the contents. This include food, drinks and ice. Then line the bottom of the fridge with towel. As well as, place several towel or rug on the floor around the fridge. This is to collect excess water when you defrost the freezer. In this way you are save from having a messier clean up, thus, save time and effort.

Second, turn the fridge off through the controls inside or unplugging it. But I would recommend to unplug the fridge for safety reasons.

Then, proceed in removing the ice from the freezer. This can be done by either propping the door open and leaving it overnight; or placing a pan of hot water in the freezer compartment and closing the door, then checking and reheating the pan of water every 10 to 15 minutes until the ice around the freezer melts; or using a hair dryer to melt the ice by aiming warm air at the ice in the freezer. Warning! be cautious in using the hair dryer, if you get too close you might damage your unit. Plus, you might be at risk for shock when the dryer comes contact with water and your standing in a pool of water. You may use this if your mindful enough not to harm your fridge and yourself.

Check if the ice in the freezer has loosen, if it has gently pry it off. Be careful not to damage and punch holes in your freezer or your fingers. If the ice is still stuck repeat the pan of warm water process or hair dyer process. Please do not use an ice picks or any sharp instruments in removing ice on the wall of the freezer. Dispose the chunk of ice, you will be using a basin for this. If all the ice are remove, we may clean the freezer wall and the inside of the fridge with a rag.

Now, that the we completed defrosting and cleaning the inside of the unit. We could also remove dust from the condenser coil and beneath the fridge. Doing this will save you a great deal of time and money.

Lastly, replace the contents of the fridge. Remember put as much food in it to save energy and money. Then, plug it in and turn it on.

This is the easiest way to defrost you fridge. Good luck!

Clean Cooking

We are still in the kitchen, and showing how to keep it organize. Learning few, simple tips in this article will save you precious time and money by keeping kitchen appliances like the stove and microwave clean and safe. It would be easier for us to maintain the cleanliness of our cooking appliance while cooking , rather than being messy while cooking and cleaning it up later. And nothing is worse is leaving it a day to dry and harden before cleanining it up which eventually it would take longer and harder to clean.

Clean Frying

To keep oil from splashing out of your frying pan and onto your beautiful stove, use a metal strainer or colander as a lid. The oil will stay in, but the hot air will find its way out throught the hole. Thus, no need to waste extra minutes wiping and cleaning those annoying oil stains.

Microwave Safe

The microwave is one of the greatest conviences available in the modern kitchens, but sometimes it's hard to tell if your dishes are microwave safe. The best ways is to test a dish is to put it in the microwave with a microwavable measuring cup filled with water. Heat for one minute at the highest power. Check the temperature of each; if the dish is cold and the water is hot , the the dish is microwave safe. Don't forget to inforn your housemates of the information you gained!

Clean Burning

Cooking with gas is one of the most economical ways to prepare your food. But burners can easily become clogged, thereby decreasing their efficiency and increasing your gas bill. You see! A yellow flame, as opposed to blue, is a sure sign of a clog. To clean them, take a toothbrush and make sure that no dirt is stopping up any holes. But never do this with the gas turned on!

Smell Lemon Fresh

Sometimes, food leave bad smell inside the microwave. And it take a toll to get rid of the smell that stick, even you already wipe clean the wall of the microwave. One fastest way to get rid of the smell is to squeeze a teaspoon of lemon juice, mix with one cup of water and place the mixture inside the microwave. Then heat for a minute at the highest power. Do this before and after you clean it. Doing this before would soften the hardened bits of dirt inside, making is easier to wipe out. Doing this after is just making sure it is smelling nice!

Keeping our Refrigerators Cool

To begin organizing our homes let us start in the kitchen. As the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any household, but unfortunately most people just don't and/or can't keep it organized. I was one of the guilty ones before. We have to wast precious time every morning while preparing breakfast. We all know exactly how it feels to stare our watches while we scramble through the refrigerator looking for something to eat, just wishing that we had five extra minutes before departing for work. And there is nothing worse than interrupting quality family time because you haven't planned your dinner in advance, and it takes you over to prepare it. Plus, how many hours have you wasted while trying to keep your kitchen clean?

But don't fret! Few simple tips I will share with you are sure to make your kitchen better organised, clutter free and efficiently functional. First, let us focus on the appliances and the refrigerator, or ref for short, be the first to be look at. As it is one of the most important as it is the most use appliance in the kitchen. Like our body, the kitchen is to a major organ, and the refrigerator is to a major artery of that organ.

Fresh Refrigerators

Keeping your refrigerator smelling fresh can be one the biggest nuisances you will ever face in your kitchen. The best way to eliminate such foul smells is to place a few charcoal briquettes on a plate in the refrigerator. Just like Korean place charcoal in their home to keep the house smelling fresh and clean. When the pieces of charcoal seem to stop working, simply warm them in a frying pan for a few minutes, and wha-la! it be working again.

Cold is Cheap

Freezers work most efficient, and therefore least expensive, when they are extremely full. Put as much food in it as you can in order to reduce your energy bill. This might also reduce your grocery bill, as buying in bulk is always cheaper and quicker. but make sure that you will able to consume the food before it spoiled. If you can put food due to economic reason, just put in jugs of water for the ref and ice water bag in the freezer.

Clean Refrigerators are Happy Refrigerators

My Uncle Franklin is still using my old Grandfather's GE refrigerator! (the frig used in the Student Rendezvous's store) Just imagine such old appliance still working efficiently. it is because it is well maintained and kept clean all this years. You see, removing dust from beneath your refrigerator is one of the easiest ways to make it last for years and years. You should move it every three months so that you can give it a good cleaning (that pesky dirt really sticks to the bottom!), but don't forget to unplug it to reduce the risk of shock. Doing this will save you a great deal of time and money, as your refrigerator will better regulate its temperature, allowing foods to stay fresh for longer.

Soggy Defrosting

Defrosting a freezer can be such a bother if you have to wipe it out. A quicker and easier method is to line the bottom of your freezer with a few absorbent towels. The towels will soak up all the water when you defrost the freezer.

If you have questions or ideas about maintaining a kitchen and a refrigerators please do not hesistate to leave your comments. And I will get back to you as soon as I can. I love sharing opinions. Thank you!
